| Soap and warm water for cleaning, bleach and hot water for disinfecting, vinegar and hot water to prevent streaking, and hand drying. | Using an instrument called a lensometer, the prescription of the glasses is read and recorded on a small plastic bag. The glasses are placed in the bag on which the prescription was recorded. | The glasses are sorted by prescription, 50 to a box. The boxes are stored until a request for that prescription is received. The center then provides them to organizations that distribute the glasses free to those needing them. |
The Center
offers the
volunteers:
Ø
An
opportunity to send the gift of clear vision to needy people around the
world.
Ø
It
offers a hands-on service project with a tangible product.
Ø
Large
(12-14) or small (2-4) work groups, and for individuals, can contribute.
Ø
The
volunteering can be done day or evening in all kinds of weather.
Ø
All ages from junior high school children to senior
citizens can do the work, separately or together.
The
Center can accommodate groups up to 14 people varying in age from
junior high
school students to senior citizens. If
you or your group is too small in number to make it feasible to open
the center
we can combine you or your group with another group.
