The association was founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1917 and is the largest service club in the world. Lions International has grown to 1.43 million members belong to local clubs in most countries in the world. Lions Clubs International is headquartered in Oak Brook Illinois. The international association is governed by a board of directors, elected annually at the International Convention.
In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions at their International Convention, challenging them to become "Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since that time, service to the blind and visually impaired has become one of the association's most significant activities.
While Lions speak many languages and profess many religious and political beliefs, they all subscribe to common objectives and ethical principles.
The Lake Jackson/Mid County Lions Club was founded in 1977 by civic minded individuals in the mid county area. We first called ourselves the Lake Jackson Lions because we met at the restaurant that was located at the Lake Jackson Dam and because most of us came from the surrounding area. Recently with a high rate of growth in the mid county we have renamed the club to better reflect the area we serve.
The Lake Jackson/Mid County Lions have a small area on the southern side of the intersection of Hoadly and Dumfries Roads. This is where we hold some of our events. Watch for our coming events sign as you pass by.
We were proud to announce that in December 2009 we celebrated our 32th anniversary of service to the community. We look forward to many more years of following the Lions Motto “We Serve”.

To assist us in performing these tasks, we have fund raising events during the year. These events include White Cane Days, Tent Rentals, Flea Markets and a Citrus Fruit Sale. Your support to assist us in these endeavors is greatly appreciated.
Our annual citrus sale is normally held in early December at the Lake Jackson Lions Club Park. We are hoping for a resounding success! We would like to express our thanks for all those who supported this important fund raising effort last year and look forward to your support again this year. Dates will be posted on our sign at the park. Please contact any of our members to indicate your interest to place an order for December 2010. The club will be very grateful for your participation and assistance in making these sales a success.
One of our major fund raising activities is tent rental. We have three 20' x 30' canopy tents which are available for rent for weddings, parties, family reunions, business receptions, political gatherings, church dinners and any number of other events where you may need the extra room such a tent can provide. The rental fee includes set up and removal at the site of your function.
Rental Policy:
a) All groups or individuals renting tents will be charged the current rate determined on an annual basis by the Lions Club Board of Directors. Since tent rentals are one of the major sources of Club revenue the Club will not donate 'free-of-charge' the use of a tent to any group or individual. The rental amount must be paid in full at the time of set-up.
b) Groups renting a tent may request a donation from the club by submitting a request to the President ot the Lake Jackson/Mid-County Lions Club, P. O. Box 1661, Manassas, VA 20108. All donation requests will be reviewed by the Board of Directors. The Board will take into account whether the request is for the type of project that the Club would normally support. The decision will also take into account club expenses for transportation, maintenance, replacement and labor to put up and take down the tent.
Call Joe Blatter at 703-754-3565 or send Email to jblatter@outdrs.net for details and to schedule a Lions tent for your next function.
